President arrives in Libya

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Libya on a three-day State visit this evening (April 08).

The first Sri Lankan Head of State to arrive on an official visit to Libya, President Rajapaksa was met at the Serte airport for special guests of the Libyan State, by the Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi and the Foreign Minister, Moussa Kusa, and given a red carpet welcome complete with a Guard of Honour.

President Rajapaksa is due to meet the Libyan Head of State Col. Muammar Gaddafi for bi-lateral discussions later today.

The visit of the Sri Lankan President is expected to strengthen Libya - Sri Lanka relations, with the two leaders discussing important aspects of cooperation in economic and trade affairs, and further support for Sri Lankan agriculture by Libya.
