A clear message to int’l community- President

This Western Province mandate has sent a decisive message to the international community. It has categorically declared that no power has any right or moral justification to bail out brutal terrorism at a time when the last lines in its final chapter are being writ, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a statement on the results of the Western Provincial Council election.

The statement:

I am grateful to the people of the Western Province who gave the UPFA an outstanding victory which has established an unsurpassable record in history of elections in the province.

This clearly shows that the city as well as the village have embraced the Mahinda Chinthana policy. This overwhelming majority of the UPFA in the Western Provincial Council coincides with the end of terrorism which plagued the country for three decades, rekindles new aspirations that augur well for the Motherland.

This Western Province mandate has sent a decisive message to the international community. It has categorically declared that no power has any right or moral justification to bail out brutal terrorism at a time when last lines in its final chapter are being written.

I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all who made this gigantic victory possible by their unlimited commitment, including all candidates who conducted their campaign in a dignified manner. My special thanks go to the voters who aligned with the UPFA to win its laudable objectives.

The Motherland always salutes those who single-mindedly toiled for its dignity and defence cutting across all political, communal and religious divisions. In order to make the victory more meaningful, I appeal to all to enjoy it while respecting the opinions of those defeated.

I would like to mention here that the priority of the newly elected Western Provincial Councilors should be to be in the forefront in the efforts to create a Sri Lankan nation and to unite the country. I appeal to all, including those in the Opposition to join me fraternally for the same.
