Forces end task of liberation
 

 

“On the morning of today- May 18 we have carried out fully the task entrusted to us by His Excellency the President of liberating Sri Lanka from the terrorism of the LTTE.”

So said the Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, in a statement on radio and TV at 2.30 pm today, May 18.

The Army Commander said;

“In the early hours of today we have brought to an end the war in the North. We have now liberated the entire North from the forces of terror. The entire territory in the North formally held by the terrorists has been taken over by the Armed Forces.

I can state with responsibility that the entirety of Sri Lanka has now been liberated from the clutches of terrorism.”
