Northern Province to light up

The government is planning to expedite providing electricity to all areas in the Northern region of the country. It is planning to be done under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" program, which was implemented by the government to develop the region.

The Ceylon Electricity Board needs 50 megawatts to provide electricity to the entire North. The Power and Energy Ministry hopes to get 70 percent of the required electricity from the Chunnakam Coal Power Plant which is currently producing 15 megawatts.
