Korean Navy on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka

 

Two ships of the Republic of Korea Navy arrived on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka, yesterday June 16. The ships, ROKS Choi Young (DDH 981) and ROKS Dae Cheong (AOE 58) belonging to the 2009 Cruise Training Task Group (CTTG) of the ROK Navy, will stay in Sri Lanka from the 15th to the 18th of June as part of their annual cruise training programme.

The 2009 Cruise Training Task Group is commanded by Rear Admiral (L) Kim Dong-kyun who has visited Sri Lanka as Commander of the ROK Navy Tsunami Relief Group in February 2005.

On the ships' departure, two Sri Lanka Navy officers are expected to join them to learn and experience the life of ROK Navy. This will help strengthen cooperation and exchange between the Sri Lanka and ROK Navies, the Defense Ministry’s Website reported.

During this visit, the CTTG Commander will pay courtesy calls on Defense Secretary Mr Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and will visit the General Sir John Kotelawela Defense University to exchange opinions on further development of military cooperation and exchanges with one another. The ships' captains will pay courtesy calls on the Commander, Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral WMLEB Illangakoon.
