President launches Road Map to Promote Spoken English Skills

 

The Road Map to Promote Spoken English Skills in Sri Lanka, the accelerated English Teacher Training Program, aimed at training 22,000 English teachers in Government schools to deliver Spoken English courses to students within 18 months, was launched by President Rajapaksa, at Temple Trees, today, June 22.

A new 'Teacher Guide and Training Manual in Spoken English' produced by 40 English teachers trained as Master Trainers in spoken English at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, was presented to the President on this occasion.

The event saw the participation of 1400 English teachers from all provinces, to be introduced to the new programme.

It will be conducted in a manner to ensure that English will be taught as a Life skill to the youth of our country, said Secretary to the President.

The launch including a lively interaction among the President, Minister of Education, Secretary to the President, Mr. Sunimal Fernando, Advisor to the President and Coordinator (English) of the Presidential Task Force on the English language initiative, and the teachers present, on problems relating to the teaching of spoken English.
