Search operations yield more LTTE weapons

 

At present, troops deployed in the former LTTE dominated areas in Wanni are engaged in a systemic search for the underground armories, mines, booby traps in order to make the areas safer for the resettlement activities.

Meanwhile the troops have recovered following war materials in search operations conducted in Pulliyanpokkanai, Ampalavanpokkanai, and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas on June 20:Two RPG launchers with 45 bombs, five T-56 riffles with 4000 ammo, one MPMG gun with 2100 ammo, 89 mortar bombs of 81mm, 60mm and 82mm calibers, six shotguns, 126 kg of high explosives, 610 kg of iron balls used for bombs, four claymore mines, 10 anti personnel mines (AP), 12 hand grenades, 22 bombs, 15 detonators, 11 ammo used for armour tanks, over 8000 dog tags, loads of chargers, maps , and few artillery bombs.

The troops acting on civilian information found two claymore mines and one detonator code from Samapuram area in Tharavikulam.

In the Eastern Province , Sri Lanka Air Force found 690 kg of C-4 high explosives , one suicide jacket, 10 detonators, 70 kg of TNT explosives, and 390 T-56 ammunition from Kadawana, Trincomalee. Also, army soldiers acting on a civilian tip off found a video camera, mortar sight and 70 boxes of MPMG ammo.
