‘‘Tamil Eelam’ unrealistic dream- Karunanidhi

‘Tamil Eelam’ was no more a realistic dream possibility but an unrealistic dream, said DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Wednesday.

He was speaking in a calling to Attention motion in the TN State Assembly by the AIADMK led by Jayalalitha, demanding that the Assembly pass a resolution accusing the Sri Lanka government of war crimes.

Instead of seeking Tamil Eelam, the TN Chief Minister advised Sri Lankan Tamils to "Strive to rise politically and win power through democratic means."

Indian media reports said Karunanidhi pointed out that hatred or arrogance will only hurt the interests of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

On the situation in Sri Lanka he added:" If we want to play a positive role in protecting Sri Lankan Tamil interests, we should not further provoke the anger of the Sinhalese."

Speaking persuasively, Karunanidhi said:" Such issues must be handled carefully. We have a responsibility not to provoke the Sinhalese."
