North |
|
|
|
In
keeping
with the
policies
and
development
effort
to
re-awaken
the
Northern
Province,
BOI has
taken
steps to
open up
a branch
office
in the
Jaffna
Peninsula.
The BOI
has
already
identified
the
potential
areas
for
various
development
projects,
with the
help of
Government
Agent of
Jaffna
and had
fruitful
discussions
with
investors
to
promote
agricultural,
fisheries
and
tourism
projects.
Discussions
were
also
held to
initiate
a scheme
to
develop
private
schools,
particularly
a
Medical
College
and
Universities
and
Hospitals,
said the
Deputy
Director
General,
infrastructure
facilities,
Mr. L.D.
Dickman.
BOI
would
encourage
the
Tamil
people
who had
left the
country,
to come
and
invest
in
Jaffna.
Steps
have
also
been
taken by
the BOI
to
construct
apartments
and
housing
complexes
which
could be
used by
the
Tamil
investors,
he
added.
The BOI
will
also
develop
linkages
with
other
Ministries,
Departments
and
Authorities
who are
providing
water,
electricity
and
Roads to
expedite
the
provision
in
infrastructure
for the
development.
In
addition
to that
the BOI
will
explore
possibilities
of joint
ventures
particularly
in the
Peninsula
to
enhance
its
infrastructure
facilities,
the
Deputy
Director
General
further
said.
