BOI office to North

 

In keeping with the policies and development effort to re-awaken the Northern Province, BOI has taken steps to open up a branch office in the Jaffna Peninsula.

The BOI has already identified the potential areas for various development projects, with the help of Government Agent of Jaffna and had fruitful discussions with investors to promote agricultural, fisheries and tourism projects.

Discussions were also held to initiate a scheme to develop private schools, particularly a Medical College and Universities and Hospitals, said the Deputy Director General, infrastructure facilities, Mr. L.D. Dickman.

BOI would encourage the Tamil people who had left the country, to come and invest in Jaffna. Steps have also been taken by the BOI to construct apartments and housing complexes which could be used by the Tamil investors, he added.

The BOI will also develop linkages with other Ministries, Departments and Authorities who are providing water, electricity and Roads to expedite the provision in infrastructure for the development. In addition to that the BOI will explore possibilities of joint ventures particularly in the Peninsula to enhance its infrastructure facilities, the Deputy Director General further said.
