No more aged in relief villages - President

The Government has released all persons above 60, including leading LTTE cadres, from the relief villages for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). At the same time 40,000 children are being given education in these centres, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing a Felicitation Ceremony for War Heroes in Mahiyangana.

The President said his government is confident at least 80 per cent of the IDPs can resettle prior to the December-end deadline.

He said his government had given a new life to LTTE child soldiers by rehabilitating them in vocations of their choice at the rehabilitation camps.

The President also said the LTTE denied education to young children in the north and east by recruiting them as combatants to fight a useless war.

He called upon the support of the people to rebuild the nation as the LTTE had been fully crushed to restore peace and normalcy.
