Under
the
"Re-Awakening
of East"
program
of the
Government,
a new
Rail-Bus
service
launched
to
facilitate
transportation
between
Battticaloa
and
Trincomalee
yesterday.
The
Indian
Government
had
granted
ten
buses to
Sri
Lanka
and
requested
the
Government
to be
deploy
them in
the
Eastern
Province.
According
to
railway
officials,
the new
transportation
mode is
expected
to
reduce
the
travel
time
between
Batticaloa
and
Trincomalee.
Each
rail bus
will
have two
buses
and the
first
rail bus
will be
seen
among
the
Batticaloa-Trincomalee
railway.
Four
rail
buses
are also
expected
to be
deployed
on the
Northern
railway
track in
the near
future,
the
officials
further
said.
According
to Sri
Lanka
Railway
officials,
the rail
bus
service
will be
launched
by Senor
Presidential
Adviser,
Basil
Rajapaksa,
Indian
High
Commissioner,
Alok
Prasad
and
Transport
Minister,
Dullas
Alahapperuma
at the
Batticaloa
Railway
station.
