Joint Railway-Bus service for Jaffna bound

The Government will shortly commence a joint Railway-Bus service from the Vavuniya railway station for the benefit of Jaffna bound civilians.

Trains are currently operated only up to Vavuniya until the reconstruction work of the Northern railway track and stations are completed.

This Railway-Bus service will fill the long felt needs of the Jaffna civilians until we complete the Northern railway line and its stations. Under this service, people going to Jaffna can travel by train from Colombo to Vavuniya and from there travel by bus to Jaffna. People who come from Jaffna will be able to take the bus from Jaffna to Vavuniya and take the Colombo bound train from there, official sources said.

A combined ticket for the service will be made available for the benefit of the public. With administration returning to normal, passenger transport is being strengthened to cater to the demand.
