Agreement to upgrade coastal railway

 

The Ministry of Transport and RITES of India have concluded an agreement for upgrading the coastal railway from Colombo to Matara at a cost of US$ 167 million. It is envisaged to upgrade the track permitting trains to run at a maximum speed of 100 Km/h. Under this project SLR will receive 20 Nos of DMUs, 3 Locomotives and training of 600 Railway Employees.
