Tourist arrivals up in July

 

The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 28 percent to 42,223 in July 2009, compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, according to figures released by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

The tourism office figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals grew from Western Europe, South Asia, East Asia, Middle East and North America.

Arrivals from Western Europe rose 15.5 percent to 16,690. Visitors from South Asia rose 39 percent to 11,080, travelers from East Asia rose 31 percent to 4,235 and the number of visitors from North America rose 19.4 to 2,669.

Tourist arrivals in to Sri Lanka increased as a result of improved security situation in the country.
