President returns from Libya

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Sri Lanka today (3) after participating in the 40th anniversary of Libyan revolution.

In addition his participation at the 40th anniversary of Libyan revolution as the head of State, President Mahinda Rajapaksa also had a very busy schedule of bi-lateral discussions with several Heads of State.

During his two day visit President Rajapaksa had meetings with Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, the President of Philippines Gloria Arroyo and President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

The leaders discussed several matters relating to cooperation in economic and trade between the countries. The Pakistan Prime Minister and President Rajapaksa discussed the possibility of introducing an information technology programme similar to the E- Nenasala, IT programme in Sri Lanka with the objective of taking the benefits of emerging technology to rural areas in Pakistan.

The President of Philippines highly commended the stern, victorious and tangible measures taken by President Rajapaksa and his government in guiding the Security Forces towards a triumphant victory over terrorism.

President Arroya also in her observations noted “Sri Lankan President has put an end to the traditionally accepted presumption that ‘terrorism cannot be defeated’ becoming an exemplary leader of a nation to the world”.
