UK supports rehab & reintegration of ex-combatants

The UK will provide Rs.17 million to the IOM International Organization for Migration towards engaging in Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ex-LTTE combatants.

The agreement to this effort was signed by the British High Commissioner Dr. Peter Hayes and the Head of International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mr. Mohammed Abdiker, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Milinda Moragoda, Sep. 4.

The Ministry of Justice and in particular the Commissioner General for Rehabilitation who has been working closely with the IOM to develop a community oriented demobilization, rehabilitation and reintegration programme welcomed the support provided by the British High Commission to the Government of Sri Lanka.

The programme focuses on strengthening capacity, support to receptor communities and an active involvement of the private sector to build sustainable solutions.

These will be critical to reconciliation efforts following the end of the war and will underpin a transition to sustainable peace, said the British High Commissioner at the signing of the agreement.
