Army to celebrate Diamond Jubilee

 

Sri Lanka Army is expected to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Diamond Jubilee next month in nearly a month-long mega event with a host of activities from October 02nd to 23rd.

The celebrations will include a Grand Army Exhibition displaying the Army evolution, captured LTTE equipment, arms and ammunition, and disaster management work.

The exhibition will be open to the public from October 3rd to 7th at the BMICH from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. daily.

The celebrations will start with a Flag hoisting ceremony on all Army units at the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura on October 2nd followed by Islamic religious observances at Davatagaha Jumma Mosque on the 5th, Hindu ceremony at Sri Bala Selvanayagam Moorthi Kovil in Maradana on the 6th and the Christian Service at Cathedral Church in Colombo on the 7th.

Sri Lanka Army was founded as a commonwealth force on October 10, 1949.
