IDPs registration in Vavuniya successfully completed

 

The Registration Strategy for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) completed its task in Vavuniya District recently under the patronage of the Presidential Task Force for Resettlement, Development and Security in the Northern Province led by Senior Presidential Advisor MP Basil Rajapaksa.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The government's officials are conducting the registration process at Menik Farm relief village

The Registration Strategy, completed the registration of 176,191 IDPs who are above the age of 12, arrived from the conflict area to the cleared areas and temporarily stayed at Menik Farm relief villages.

Temporary Identity Cards were given to the IDPs under the registration and they specially included the Name & Address, a Photograph, Thumb Print, Date of Birth, Sex, Marital Status, Employment, Ethnicity, and the Grama Niladhari Division.

In a full data base of the IDPs included the details on whether their family members are missing, dead or injured and of any damages to their property to ease the Government's resettlement programme.

The registration aimed to obtain a demographic breakdown or profile of the population and determine the social, economic and professional status of individual IDP families. It also hoped to establish tracking of the movements until final return and tracking of assistance.
