According to the Election Secretariat, 1.761,859 persons are eligible to vote at the poll and 494 candidates from Galle District, 357 candidates from Matara District and 240 candidates from Hambantota District are contesting the election which 23, 18 and 12 members will be elected respectively.

The Election Secretariat had deployed 23,250 election officers on duty in 1465 polling stations in the province. Four counting centres have also been set up.

The postal voting for the October 10 Southern Provincial Council elections were held on September 29 and 30 and 31,158 workers had requested for postal voting from three Districts.
