Lanka can now detect melamine

Sri Lanka will now be able to carry out its own melamine tests as a result of the introduction of latest technology for detecting melamine in milk food imported to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has been sending all imported milk food and milk products to Malaysia and Singapore for melamine testing at a cost of Rs. 50,000 per test.

Sri Lanka now does not require the service of foreign laboratories to detect melamine in milk food and the Government has an opportunity to cut down costs.

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has introduced the latest technology. This is available for both State and private sector.
