President directs to open Renal Care Hospital

The Renal Care Hospital and Research Centre at Maligawatte Colombo will be opened before the end of this month for the benefit of kidney patients throughout the country.

This follows a directive issued by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a discussion held recently.

The hospital was built at a cost of Rs.450 million.

President, who discussed issues relating to the spread of kidney ailments, has advised to open the Maligawatte hospital and Research Centre forthwith for the benefit of innocent kidney patients without giving into the demands of certain vested interests in the medical profession.

Daily News reported that it was revealed at the talks that the opening of this new facility scheduled for January this year was postponed due to a conflict between the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) and the university Professors.

President Rajapaksa who intervened to settle this matter ordered that the hospital be opened without delay to help minimize the problems and sufferings of the kidney patients.
