4 bridges to boost economic activities in East

 

The Government is nearing reconstructing of three bridges in Yan Oya, Pudavaikattu and Oddamavadi to boost the economic activities in the Eastern Province under Spanish assistance.

The Irrakkandi bridge is already constructed under this project at a cost of Rs. 713 million and will be opened on October 20. The bridge, is 300 meters in length spanning over the Irrakkandi Lagoon. It is 7 meters wide with two lanes of 1.5 meters for pedestrians.

The construction of the four bridges cost nearly Rs.2,800 million.

Oddamavadi, Yan Oya and Pudavaikattu bridges are being constructed at a cost of Rs.728million, Rs.516 million and Rs.840 million respectively.

The United Nation Office for Project Service (UNOPS) is handling the construction work which is being supervised by the Road Development Authority and the Highways and Road Development Ministry, the Daily News said.

The public transport in Batticaloa and Trincomalee would be hassle free because of these bridges.
