Sri Lanka to open consulate in Sichuan Province, China

Sri Lanka is due to open a consulate in the city of Chengdu of the Sichuan Province in China before the end of this year, further expanding strong relations between the two countries.

This was announced by Prime Minister, Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka at the 10th anniversary of the 'Western China Development Strategy' and the launch of the '10th Western China Expo' in China.

Currently Sri Lanka has a consulate in Shanghai with its Embassy in Beijing.

Trade between Sri Lanka and China is expanding with Sri Lanka securing a good place in the Chinese consumer market for Sri Lanka's tea, gems and jewellery, spices, handicrafts etc. The Prime Minister called upon Chinese investors to take opportunity of Sri Lanka's current stable situation and build more partnerships with Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has granted China an exclusive economic zone in its first post- war efforts to attract more investments.
