The Dehiwala flyover was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today, (Oct. 21).

The construction work of the flyover was commenced on July o7 and the total cost of the project was Rs.920 million which has been funded by the UK government. The two-lane flyover is 337 metres in length and 7.35 metres in width.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened three flyovers this year, constructed under the ‘Maga Neguma’ development project.

The Kelaniya flyover, which is 325 metres in length, was the first of 222 bridges to be constructed countrywide. It was opened by the President on March 25. It eased the traffic congestion caused by over 75,000 vehicles traveling along Colombo-Kandy main road every day.

The pre-fabricated flyover at Nugegoda, which was commenced on a concept of President Rajapaksa was also opened on January 23. It was 261 metres long and 8.5 metres wide. The cost of this British government funded project is 878 million Rupees.
