The
Dehiwala
flyover
was
declared
open by
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
today,
(Oct.
21).
The
construction
work of
the
flyover
was
commenced
on July
o7 and
the
total
cost of
the
project
was
Rs.920
million
which
has been
funded
by the
UK
government.
The
two-lane
flyover
is 337
metres
in
length
and 7.35
metres
in
width.
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
opened
three
flyovers
this
year,
constructed
under
the
‘Maga
Neguma’
development
project.
The
Kelaniya
flyover,
which is
325
metres
in
length,
was the
first of
222
bridges
to be
constructed
countrywide.
It was
opened
by the
President
on March
25. It
eased
the
traffic
congestion
caused
by over
75,000
vehicles
traveling
along
Colombo-Kandy
main
road
every
day.
The
pre-fabricated
flyover
at
Nugegoda,
which
was
commenced
on a
concept
of
President
Rajapaksa
was also
opened
on
January
23. It
was 261
metres
long and
8.5
metres
wide.
The cost
of this
British
government
funded
project
is 878
million
Rupees.
The
President
is
paying a
great
deal of
attention
to
construct
flyovers
and
bridges
with his
concept
of ‘Maga
Neguma’
to
develop
infrastructure
facilities
in Sri
Lanka.
