Jaffna hospital to be further developed

 

The Health Ministry is planning a Rs. 2,000 million project to improve the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. This is to be funded by the Japanese government.

Under this project, the new 3-storey complex will house the administrative unit and the wards for patients. Central facilities for diagnostic imaging will be on the ground floor. It will comprise 4 rooms for X-rays, 4 Radiology rooms, a Dental X-ray Unit, Memography Unit and Endoscope, CT Scanning, ECG, EEG, and Ultra Sound Units.

The Operating Theatre complex with 8 Operating rooms and Recovery Rooms will be housed on the 2nd floor, which will also have a 20-bed Intensive Care Unit, Central Laboratory, Haematology, Bio-Chemistry and Micro Biology Units.

The project is due to be completed by the end of next year and will be granted by the Japanese government through the Japan International Corporation Agency.

The agreement pledging Rs. 2,000 million was signed at the Ministry of Health by Ministry Secretary Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage and Hideya Kobayashi, Plan Implementation Chief of Japan International Corporation Agency.
