Conquer the
world without giving into wealth and power –
President |
|
|
|
We can
conquer
the
world if
only we
produce
people
with
determination
who do
not give
into
forces
of
wealth
and
power as
in the
past,
said
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
at the
annual
prize
giving
ceremony
of
Nalanda
College
yesterday
(26).
Founders
of the
school
like Ven
Hikkaduwe
Sri
Sumangala
Thero
did not
give
into
imperialism
or
wealth.
They did
not feel
that
nothing
can be
done
because
they did
not have
wealth.
Instead
they
worked
with
commitment,
he
stressed.
Addressing
the
students,
he
further
stated
that
knowledge,
intellect
or
wisdom
will not
shine
through
if an
individual
does not
possess
a good
character.
He
explained
that
this is
not
innocence,
cowardice
or
running
away
from
problems
but a
good
character
is built
when
working
with
perseverance,
belief
and
discipline.
The
President
noted
that
such
people
with
good
character
are
needed
to build
the
nation
and
added
that all
the
world's
experts
are
those
who did
not
delay
work.
In the
past
leaders
delayed
the
fight
against
terrorism
saying
it was
too
difficult.
As a
consequence
a great
financial
burden
had to
be borne
to end
terrorism
in the
present
times.
Therefore
the best
way to
build a
great
nation
is to
finish
the
day's
work
today.
There is
a better
condition
today
for
education
than in
the
past.
This is
not the
time to
complain
that
there
are not
enough
facilities.
This is
the time
to use
the
existing
facilities
to the
maximum,
stressed
the
President.
The
President
stated
that
great
courage
is
required
to
overcome
all
obstacles
and that
there is
no
competition
for the
person
who
works
hard.
That
person
does not
have the
time to
be
concerned
about
jalousies
and no
one can
achieve
the fame
s/he
achieves,
stressed
the
President.
