The government has taken measures to setup Independent Trade Zones (ITZ) in Kilinochchi and Trincomalee districts, Mass Media, Telecommunication and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said.

According to the Minister, with the existing peaceful atmosphere in the country, Sri Lanka is now considered as one of the best places to invest among other Asian countries. Foreign investors and Sri Lankan expatriates are interested in launching their investments especially in the North and East provinces of the country.

The government expects to grant fifteen year tax relief for those who invest in the ITZs which are to be established in the North and East.

Moreover, the government plans to create more employment opportunities for native citizens in the two districts.

The government will provide more tax relief to those who invest in the North and the East while providing fair tax relief to all those who invest outside the Western Province, the Minister added
