No support for LTTE proxies in South African soil - SA Foreign Minister

 

The visiting South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana Mashbane assured that the South African Government will not permit pro- LTTE elements and proxies to operate from their soil.

Minister Bogollagama said that the Foreign Ministers also spoke on the existing Air Services Agreement and the possibilities of expediting MoUs on Water Resources, Agreement on Double Taxation and an Agreement of Tourism.

'We also discussed the possibilities of enhancing the ties in the fields of education, science and technology,' he said.

The Sri Lankan Government is keen to develop the areas of science and technology while also considering opening a Nano Technology Centre with the assistance of South Africa, the Minister further said.

South African Foreign Minister Mashbane said that her country assured the fullest support to the Government's resettlement and reconstruction effort in the aftermath of the 30 year conflict.

Mashbane, a former South African High Commissioner to Sri Lanka stressed that her country has vast experience in dealing with the post conflict situation and they are ready to share their experiences with Sri Lanka.

"I visited the welfare centres where the people displaced by the terrorist atrocities have been provided accommodation. I saw children studying in classes", she said.

"The Government has already resettled a large number of displaced people," she said.
