Oluvil Port ready in one year

The construction work on the Oluvil Port will be completed in October next year. One third of the construction is now complete, said the Project Manager Hans Jorgen at a special press conference held at the Oluvil Port premises recently.

The Oluvil Port comprising a stretch of 1.4 kilometers will include a commercial harbour and a fisheries harbour.

The Project Manager said on completion, the commercial harbour could handle six vessels of ten thousand tons simultaneously. The construction is carried out by Denmark’s MT Hojgaard Company.

The Government has also initiated work for building and developing five more ports; Galle, Trincomalee, Kankasanthurai, Point Pedru and a new Port in Hambantota, under the ‘Mahinda Chintana’ to make the country the centre of the Asian silk route once again, taking advantage of its unique geographical location.
