Heroes
have not
emerged
among
the
political
leaders
who had
erected
barbed
wire
fences
around
temples
and,
those
who
conspired
with
international
elements
to
betray
the
motherland,
said
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
at the
Presidential
Secretariat
yesterday
(16)
during
the
presentation
of Punya
Bhoomi
title
deeds to
temples
which
have
been
built on
the
State
lands.
An era
has
dawned
where
the
inheritance
of the
nation
can be
used for
development.
All
those
who love
the
country
and
respect
our
history
must
join
hands to
build
the
nation,
said the
President.
He added
that
those
who were
involved
in
erecting
barbed
wire
fences
around
Buddhist
temples
depriving
religious
freedom
of the
people
and
Buddhist
monks
are now
preaching
about
Dasa
Raja
Dharmaya.
The
Maha
Sangha
is
always
in the
forefront
to
protect
and
promote
people
friendly
policies.
The
blessings
of the
Maha
Sangha
helped
to free
the
country
from
terrorism,
the
President
stated.
The
Pirith
Noola
tied
around
the
soldiers
by the
Maha
Sangha
gave
them
unprecedented
courage
and
fortitude
in their
fight
against
terrorism.
President
Rajapaksa
said the
Maha
Sangha
did not
leave
the
temples
or
villages
when
they
were
attacked
by
terrorists.
The
Maha
Sangha
in these
areas
did not
get alms
on time.
Their
lives
were
miserable
due to
terrorism.
The
Government
has
implemented
a
project
to
develop
temples
in such
areas in
honour
of their
service
to the
society
at
difficult
times,
he said.
