The foreign media has created a false picture of the current situation of welfare villages where the Internally Displaced Persons are sheltered, said a delegation of the Federation of Malaysian Sri Lankans Associations who visited the North recently.

The Government is doing its best for their welfare. It's an excellent job, said Mr. S. Kulasegaran addressing the media today (Nov. 19), MCNS reported.

“We managed to raise about 1.2 million Ringgit (Rs.35.7 million) in cash and kind with the assistance of our 18 affiliates. We had some road shows with regard to this and the response was excellent”, Mr. S. Kulasegaran added.

According to the MCNS, the delegation expressed their satisfaction at the speedy progress made in the resettlement of IDPs. They appreciated the fact that they were given free access to IDP camps and rehabilitation centers and were able to interview them freely.
