Security clearances eased-off from North to South

No security clearance is further needed for Northern civilians to reach Colombo via land routes from yesterday (18) onwards, said Governor Northern Province G.A Chandrasiri.

According to Defence Ministry website President Mahinda Rajapaksa has given approval for the immediate provision of the facility - easing-off imposed restrictions- due to security concerns.

"This development comes as the security situation is stable in the peninsula following the defeat of the LTTE terrorists", Governor Chandrasiri said.

Further speaking, he noted that this initiative would facilitate travel between Jaffna and Colombo. Also commenting on transportation along the A-9 trunk road Governor Chandrasiri said that, any Sri Lankan can travel to Jaffna using public transport.
