SL- Korea to develop food & agriculture

 

The Ministry of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Service has taken steps to establish the Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) with the collaboration of Rural Development Administration of the Republic of Korea.

The purpose of this initiative is to contribute solutions for global food crisis of member states for food security, to industrialize Asian food and culture through customized, cooperation of agriculture and food technology, enhance the partnership and the leadership in the international community to speak the mutual interest of Asian member countries.

It is expected to launch as a regional collaborative initiative based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the voluntary participated Asian member countries and at the second development level it is planned to develop into international organization on the basis of convention among Asian member countries.

The final budget for this is US$ 2 million in 2010 and it will expand up to US $5 million in 2012 and it will be borne by Government of Korea.

Rural Development Administration of the Republic of Korea is seeking the establishment of Asian Food Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) with 15 Asian countries including Sri Lanka.
