Growing interest from UK for business in SL – British High Commission

There is growing interest from UK companies in doing business in Sri Lanka, said Janet Ford, Head of Trade & Investment of the British High Commission.

With the end of the conflict there is substantial potential for Sri Lankan companies to attract partners from the UK - particularly in the ICT sector, she further noted.

Ford made these comments after the successful completion of Technology World 2009, held in Coventry, UK on the 23-24 November where six Sri Lankan ICT companies attended.

Technology World 2009 is the UK’s largest “speed meeting” event helping over 500 buyers and sellers to do business, said the British High Commission in a press release.

Ford further stated that “this event allows Sri Lankan ICT companies to meet with a large number of UK companies that are interested in collaborating in innovation and expanding their businesses globally”.

The Companies representing Sri Lanka were Aranxa Software, Dinota Information Technologies, hSenid Mobile Solutions, Orion Management Consortium, Sabre Technologies and Talliance.

They are companies that have the potential to do more business internationally and represent some of Sri Lanka’s most innovative ICT companies, the British High Commission further noted.

The Technology World 2009 event provides a highly effective platform for companies to identify and build new international business and partnership opportunities. It brings together UK and non-UK based companies from across the globe to do business via a 2 day, focused 'speed meeting' event. The event also included a world-class seminar/panel discussion programme.

Key technologies covered by TechnologyWorld09 include Communications, Electronics, Enterprise Software, Systems & Services and Mobile Health with special emphasis on Low Carbon Technology, an area of increasing interest to Sri Lankan businesses.
