Rural industries to further develop

The Ministry of Rural Industries and Self Employment Promotion has taken steps to uplift the Kitul derivative product industry from rural level to a commercial scale under a special programme.

This is a concept under the Mahinda Chintana manifesto to upgrade self employment and indigenous industries in the country.

Under this programme, new technology and marketing techniques will be introduced to the people who are engaged in the Kitul industry. A special treatment method called Kasper had been introduced through the Agrarian Services Centres to increase the toddy harvest which is essential for the Kitul industry.

The pilot projects covering Imbulpe, Passara, Hataraliyadda, Bulathsinhala, Tawalama and Madulla divisional secretariats had already been launched to provide training facilities to those engaged in the Kitul industry.
