External forces can’t change my decisions that benefit the motherland - President

Even though the world’s most powerful nations interfere, I will not change the decisions that benefit our people and the nation, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the ceremony commencing the construction work of Sri Lanka’s second International Airport in Mattala, Hambantota today (Nov. 27).

The recent past which was a crucial period in the country clearly shows this, he stressed.

I want to create opportunities for all the people in this country to live a better life and the Government has already launched massive development projects in this regard. The Government policy is to protect the environment during development activities since the environment is part of our lives, the President stated.

Hence, all must join to build this country for our future generations, he stressed.

Sri Lanka’s second International Airport is a project of $ 200mn, financially assisted by the Peoples Republic of China. The first phase of this project is due to be completed in 2011.

Agreement relating to the construction of the Airport was signed today.
