Decisions taken at forums must be implemented – PM

If decisions taken at any forum are not implemented, the forums become worthless, said Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka at the 2009 Commonwealth Summit held at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The Prime Minister representing President Mahinda Rajapaksa further talked about the damages caused by climate change and referring to the Kyoto summit said, it was surprising that decisions were not implemented.

The Commonwealth Summit is attended by leaders of 51 Commonwealth countries including Queen Elizabeth II of Britain and Prince Phillip.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka held bilateral talks with Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Patrick Manning. The Sri Lankan Premier explained that after 30 years there is no terrorist threat in Sri Lanka now and the country is experiencing political stability with a continuous flow of foreign investment. Prime Minister Manning appreciated this current situation in the country.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka met the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd and is expected to hold bilateral discussions with other leaders during the visit.

The aim of this Summit is to discuss and address common problems faced by Commonwealth countries relating to economy, politics, environment and climate change.
