Navy rescues Indian fishermen in distress

Sri Lanka Navy authorities rescued four Indian fishermen who were found drifting in their fishing boat near the Maradapuram fishing marshalling point in Karainagar Island yesterday (02).

Sri Lanka Navy authorities at SLNS Elara in Karainagar took the fishermen in distress into their care. After subjecting the fishermen to proper medical examination they were provided with clean clothes and served with a proper meal. Naval authorities took all measures to ensure the welfare of the fishermen. Their boat together with all equipment had been handed over to the Madarapuram Fishing Society for safe keeping.

The fishermen expressing their views said that they were well taken care by Sri Lankan Navy and they are ever so grateful for all the trouble the Naval personnel took to ensure their welfare.

They also said it’s god who had brought them into the safe hands of Sri Lanka Navy and if not for them their fate would’ve been very much different. They also asked their kith and kin at home not to worry about them as they are all safe and secure and will return home in due course.

According to Navy authorities the four fishermen namely Karunanidhi Sekar (44), Ramachandiran Shakthivel (40), Weeramuththu Soundaraj (30) and Kumaran Muniyan (32) are natives of Nagamawattam and belong to the Naleiwurumei Fishing Society in Kodiyakarei, India.
