Govt. to boost food assistance in N & E    

 

The Cabinet yesterday approved an MOU submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to come to an agreement with the World Food Programme for the provision of grant assistance of US$ 134,907,780 to implement WFP food aid programme in Sri Lanka.

The objective of this programme is to support the Government in its effort of relief and rehabilitation activities for the internally displaced and economically affected people.

The project activities include food distribution for the displaced or recently affected people by the war against terrorism, Mother-child health and nutrition and food for all primary students in selected schools.

This programme will be implemented in selected areas in Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee Districts in the Eastern Province and Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullative, Kilinochchi and Jaffna Districts in the Northern Province.

In addition, selected programme activities will also be implemented in Districts such as Hambantota, Monaragala, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Puttalam.
