Indian HC dismisses litigation seeking to ban India from playing SL

The Madras High Court bench yesterday (3) dismissed a public interest litigation seeking to ban Indian Cricket team from playing matches with Sri Lanka, including the ongoing home series.

The petitioner, P Joel Antony, an advocate, alleged that the Sri Lankan government had violated human rights during the war between the Sri Lankan army and the LTTE.

“Allowing a country’s cricket team to play in India is a matter relating to external policy of the country. Such policies are not amenable to judicial scrutiny”, said Justice D Murugesan and Justice S Nagamuthu dismissing the petition.

“External policies are concerned with relationship with neighbouring countries and nation’s security and are framed with the interest of the nation as a whole and this court cannot interfere in such policies”, quoting the judges PTI reported.
