President orders removal of his posters

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had ordered the Police to remove all his posters, banners and cutouts displayed in the Colombo city and island-wide before the nominations date to ensure that election laws were complied with.

The Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya that said in forms of Section 15 of the Elections Act of 1981, the Police has to execute certain responsibilities and functions and the police would strictly adhere to such provisions this time.

He also said the President instructed him on two occasions to remove all those posters inconsistent with the regulation.
