Relief loans to resettled people

 

The Government has commenced a programme to provide livelihood relief loans to the newly resettled people of the Northern Province.

The loans amounting to Rs.7.5 million have been granted for resettled people in the Jaffna District. The funds of the Northern Provincial Council will be utilized for the granting of loans to resettled persons, said Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, reported Daily News.

Accordingly, 150 people who were resettled in the Jaffna District recently had been granted loans amounting to Rs.50,000 each at a ceremony held under the patronage of Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda and Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri in Achchuweli recently, the report added.

The Governor said that loans had helped them to set up trade stalls and purchase sewing machines for women in resettled areas of the North.

The report further said that 63 people who were newly resettled in the Kilinochchi District had been granted livelihood relief loans at a ceremony held in Vavuniya recently.
