Historic Hindu
shrine in North opens for pilgrims |

The
historic
Keerimalai
Naguleswaram
Kovil in
Kankasanthurai,
Jaffna
peninsula
was open
for
devotees
from
yesterday.
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
directed
the
authorities
to open
the
Kovil
for
pilgrims,
Major
General
G. A.
Chandrasiri,
Governor
of the
Northern
Province
said.
The
location
of this
Kovil
was
within
the High
Security
Zone
since
1990 and
the
devotees
and
priests
needed
special
permission
from
security
officials
to visit
the
premises.
The road
from
Senthankulam
to
Keerimalai
is
opened
for the
public
and
devotees
would be
able to
visit
the
Naguleswaram
Kovil
daily
for
their
worshiping,
the
Governor
said.
A
special
bus
service
from
Jaffna
will
start
from
today to
cater to
the
travel
needs of
pilgrims
from the
Jaffna
area.
