SL to build largest fishery harbour

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has taken steps to construct a landing site to accommodate displaced outboard engine fishing boats at the new fisheries harbour at Dickowita which is under construction.

This will be the largest fishery harbour in Sri Lanka with sophisticated facilities. The expenditure for this construction has been estimated at Euro 53 million, of which 38% will be a grant supplied by the Royal Netherlands Government and Euro 33.748 million from the balance provided as a loan from the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). The local fund requirement is euro 8 million.

The construction of this project commenced in February 2009 and will be completed within two years.
