Swift measures to assist flood victims

The National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) had taken swift measures to assist the flood victims in the Eastern Province.

NDMC has set up several camps in Batticaloa to provide shelter for the victims.

Around 50,000 families were affected due to the floods in the Eastern Province resulting from heavy rains.

Arrangements have been made to distribute dry rations and provide temporary accommodation to the flood victims and the Grama Niladharis of the area have been advised to organize relief measures to the affected people.

National Disaster Relief Services Centre has released funds to meet emergency requirements of the people affected. The centre is collecting information about damaged houses to provide relief assistance and reconstruct those houses.

Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology said the atmospheric disturbance was still affecting the weather over the island and the wet weather would continue in the Eastern part of the country.
