Kokavil tower to function soon

Construction work of the transmission tower in Kokavil is being accelerated to fulfil the communication needs of the Northern people.

The tower is being constructed at a cost of Rs.400 million, under the guidance of the “Uthuru Wasanthaya” Task Force. Its height will be 172 metres and will also be the tallest transmission tower in Sri Lanka.

The Media Ministry and the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission provides the required grants and inspects the construction works. The tower is due to function shortly.

Kokavil tower was earlier captured by the LTTE terrorists to be used for clandestine transmissions of the terror outfit. Troops took control of the tower in the battle to liberate the North.

The Government took actions to build a new transmission tower equipped with modern facilities to replace the devastated one. With the construction of the new tower, the Northern civilians will enjoy telephone facilities.
