Development war
will be won – President |

“I
carried
out the
most
arduous
exercise
of
eradicating
terrorism
in the
country
and I
will win
the
development
war to
create
better
future
for our
posterity”,
said
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa
at the
Elections
Secretariat
after
handing
over
nomination
papers
for the
upcoming
Presidential
election.
He said
the
people
assigned
him with
a
special
task of
reuniting
the
Motherland
and he
was able
to
achieve
what the
people
expected
from
him. The
country
is going
for a
Presidential
election
for the
first
time
after
terrorism
was
wiped
out from
the
country,
he said.
“It is
not
difficult
for me
to meet
the
challenges
of
development
if
terrorism
was
crushed
within
four
years”,
he
stressed.
Candidates
from 18
recognized
political
parties
and five
independent
groups
handed
over
nominations
for the
Presidential
Polls.
The
President
arrived
in Kandy
afterwards.
He
visited
the Maha
Nayake
Theras
of the
Malwatte
and
Asgiriya
Chapters
and paid
homage
to the
Sacred
Tooth
Relic at
the Sri
Dalada
Maligawa
yesterday.
Three
thousand
members
of the
Maha
Sangha
chanted
Pirith
to
invoke
blessings
on the
President
Rajapaksa.
This was
the
first
instance
when
such a
large
number
of Maha
Sangha
had
congregated
to one
place to
take
part in
religious
observances.
The
clergy
were
from the
Kandy,
Matale,
Nuwara
Eliya
and
Kurunegala
Sasanarakshaka
Mandalayas.
All
sections
of
people
including
those in
the
remotest
villages
had
understood
the
services
rendered
to the
country
by
President
Mahinda
Rajapaksa.
They are
prepared
to show
their
gratitude
to the
President,
Malwatte
Chapter
Anunayaka
Thera
Most
Ven.
Niyangoda
Vijithasiri
Thera
said.
