Construction work on the rail track from Vavuniya to Jaffna which links the North and South is now in progress.

The Yal Devi train will operate beyond Vavuniya, when the construction completed.

The terrorists destroyed the Nochchimudai Bridge along this track in 1990. With the return of peace to the North, the Government took action to re-construct the bridge. It is due to be completed by the end of this month.

Accordingly, the aim is to operate the Yal Devi train up to Omanthai.
