Gampaha flyover nearing completion

The construction work of Gampaha flyover, which is expected to ease the heavy traffic congestion at the Gampaha junction, will be completed soon.

The Government has spent around Rs.300 million for the project. The construction of the four-lane flyover commenced in 2005 will be 410 meters long and 15 meters wide. The State Development and Construction Corporation handled the construction work, reported Daily News.

The flyover is being constructed over the main railway line in the Gampaha town. The main road in Gampaha is frequently closed due to trains traveling in both directions. Therefore, the project would provide easy access to thousands of vehicles plying across the busy town of Gampaha without any delay. It will especially ease the traffic congestion occurring during school hours and office hours at the Gampaha junction, the report added.

The Government has already constructed several flyovers in suburb areas, including Dehiwala, Nugegoda, Orugodawatte and Kelaniya flyovers, under the ‘Maga Neguma’ Project to develop infrastructure facilities in Sri Lanka. The construction work of the flyover in Pannipitiya is also in progress.
