33 power sets for railway development

The Government is set to import 33 power sets from China and India, at a cost of Rs.13 billion for the locomotives next year, under its 10-year Railway Development Strategy cited in the Mahinda Chintana.

20 power sets will be imported from India while the balance 13 have been ordered from China, reported Daily News.

“Power sets will mainly be deployed for both short and long distance services to ease the morning and afternoon rush. We will deploy these power sets to the up country line, coastal line and Kelani valley line”, said Sri Lanka Railways General Manager P.P. Wijesekara, the report added.
